Foundations of Data Governance (aecf-kcn) (DG 102)

Description

This course is designed to equip Annie E. Casey Foundation KIDS COUNT Network members with the tools and knowledge necessary to develop and sustain a comprehensive data governance framework that aligns with their organization’s mission, values, and community impact goals. Through a combination of practical instruction, real-world examples, and peer-to-peer learning, participants will learn how to translate data governance concepts into actionable policies, processes, roles, and systems.

Emphasizing ethical, equitable, and engagement practices, the course guides learners through the five foundational pillars of nonprofit data governance - Policies, Practices, People, Platforms, and Products - culminating in a hands-on capstone activity where participants craft and present a Data Governance Charter Pitch tailored to their organization. This applied approach enables participants to both learn by doing and learn by reviewing, deepening their ability to implement governance strategies that are transparent, inclusive, and sustainable.
