Introduction to Data Foundations (DF 001)

Description

Welcome to the Introduction to Data Foundations course. This is our starting point for the Data Foundations Series, which includes three connected learning experiences focused on data governance, data management, and data communication.

This introductory course is designed to help you understand how the series is structured, how the courses build on one another, and how to engage with the learning in a way that fits your role, organization, and current data capacity. Whether you are new to this work or already engaged in building data practices, we are excited to have you here.

Throughout the Data Foundations Series, you will see us frequently reference nonprofits. When we use this term, we are referring more broadly to the social impact community - work that may be led by nonprofit organizations, or philanthropies, government agencies, educational institutions, and other mission-driven entities operating without a profit motive. The concepts, tools, and examples in these courses are designed to be relevant across this broader ecosystem of social impact work.

In this course, you will:

  • Get oriented to the Data Foundations Series, course expectations, learning approach, and how to navigate and engage with courses in Talent (Module 1)
  • Explore an overview of the three courses in the series; Data Governance, Data Management, and Data Communication and how they are designed to work together or stand alone (Module 2)
  • Engage with the Data Maturity Model and Self Assessment and use it as a lens to reflect on where your organization currently is and where it may want to grow (Module 3)
